When God Says, Enough is Enough?

Does God ever say, "Enough is Enough?" When and if he does, what happens? When we speak of calamity in our lives we have to consider why we experienced the fate. Some individuals would be quick to say that a person has sin in their lives. We know by Jobs story that this is not always true. While we cannot be too quick to call something punishment we must continue to search our hearts and seek God in our lives. Only God knows when our calamities are in direct result of our disobedience. A good parent disciplines us and teaches us right from wrong. God is a loving but just, therefore, punishment comes when we are rebelliously disobedient. In Jeremiah 44:20-23 the scripture is very clear about disobedience, "When the Lord could no longer endure your wicked actions and the detestable things you did, your land became an object of cursing and a desolate waste without inhabitants, as it is today. Because you have burned incense and have sinned against the Lord and have not obeyed him or followed his law or his decrees or his stipulations, this disaster has come upon you, as you now see."

This is a hard truth isn't it? None of us want to assume that God might be trying to get our attention. Maybe he has had our attention for a long time but we just refuse to acknowledge that we (an individual or a nation) see or hear him. Make no mistake. We are told that, "sheep hear their shepherds voice," and we are accountable for what we hear. According to the scripture there is a time when God says, "Enough is enough."  As you look around, what evidence do you see of God bringing disaster on our nation for our disobedience?

  1. Patsy, first of all I love the anonymous quote you have here. I have copied this for my daughter who will be heading to college this year. I will certainly pray that she hides her heart in Christ...love it.

Wow, the consequences for the disobedience of mankind are everywhere, aren't they?! In the fiber of the world. The love of our Christ is the only answer but are we capable of showing His love without confusing it with our emotional love? I am wondering outloud if I/we can figure out the difference between tolerance and disobedience? I have a bleeding heart that wants to be accepting of others but can I stand on Jesus' love that still carries His absolutes. Hmmmm, will have to ponder this but evidence is plentiful in our nation, our communities, our homes and in us...but there is hope in Christ.

  2. Tom, thanks. You are the first to notice that quote. I am mentoring a young girl that came into my life not long ago. If only young women could grasp the idea that they must belong to Christ first. There is a thirst within us that only Christ can quench. I love my husband very much but until I stopped waiting for him to fulfill all my needs and allow God to be God in my life, I was always searching. You and Robin are lovely people. Your daughter is very lucky.
